River Island
THE STORE REPORT
The river island store was quite cramped. Most of the women’s wear clothes were lain out on rails around the store. There were islands of clothes in the centre of the store and railings around the walls of the store itself. It seemed like the store had been filled as much as it could hold but this made the store seem messy and a little cramped. The clothes were sort of in categories such as all the jeans were together and all the evening dresses were together on a rail of their own.  All of the shoes were at the back of the store on a wall rack and were displayed in height order. There was also a separate space for jewellery and accessories.  The clothes in the store vary in price, some things were cheap at about ten pounds and others were more towards the hundreds. The lighting was very bright which made it easier to see the clothes on the stores floor. I liked the styling on the mannequins which were placed in various parts of the store but were very eye catching. The stores staff members were in lay back casual clothes. All had either a black or light blue shirt on but it was a little hard to distinguish which people were staff and who weren’t if they hadn’t been wearing badges.
The quality of the clothes was good. You get your money’s worth for each garment, depending on what fabrics are used and how complex the design of the garment is.

All Saints

The All saints store was much darker in lighting I think this was to go with the grunge style of the clothing. The clothes in this store were much nicer quality and had more complicated styles than River Island but the prices were a little more expensive varying from £50-£400 for a garment. The lay out was a little tight having islands with clothing on in each half of the store. The store was split in half with men’s wear on one side and women’s on the other. I liked the chunky bulb lights around the window display. The whole store had a sort of industrial look to it, there was lots of grey and black and some steel plating around parts of the store. The staff were dressed in black jeans and a black polo shirt each. I liked the atmosphere of the store as it is very me (dark and grungy).

Roberto Cavalli

Roberto Cavalli’s boutique on Rue Saint-Honore Paris is very stylish. The boutiques lay out is very modern, the garments are on rails around the side walls of the store. There are also some mannequins with some of his work on placed in the centre of the store. The store has some round mirrored tables with accessories and perfumes on, also there is long leather benches to sit on as a sort of waiting area. The colour palate is in black, white, silver and a gold colour. All the lights are designer styled with a sort of layered star effect, the lighting itself is rather dim around the store but each clothing rail has its own set of spot lights to make them stand out more. The clothes themselves are very glamorous and look a lot more elegant than high street stores. The fabrics and garment silhouettes are much more luxurious but obviously this means the price ranges are a lot more expensive. There is much more space in the store which makes it seem more luxurious than a high street store and all the décor and lighting and colour scheme are more grand as well.

The conclusion
I found that the designer store was much nicer based on interior and standard of clothes. The lighting was better as well as the décor and layout of the shop floor and the whole atmosphere of the store was much more welcoming. The high street stores were a little more untidy and cramped and didn’t have quite the same wow factor given by the designer shops. The clothes quality was also much better at the designer stores but obviously this meant they were more expensive costing more towards the thousand zones. Overall I would prefer to shop at a designer store because the quality is far better and looks much nicer. I think this is because the high street stores are mass produced so they spend less thought on layout and try to fit as much products as possible which makes the stores look cramped.
